Facilitator Training FAQ

Simonetta Rodriguez has helped IHR groups (in towns she lived in) set up several facilitator training sessions since 1991. Much depends upon the group and its goals. A small, quite new group may desire initially to train just one pair of facilitators, so they can begin hosting discussion sessions. She has not yet guided a group in this early phase remotely, but she is willing to try. A couple of years later the same group may have grown such that they decide to offer an extensive facilitator training weekend workshop, training 30-50+ interested people from an entire region.

It also depends upon where the group is geographically. She can not travel far from Boston, MA, while other people who do this (for example, Nathan Rutstein), can and do travel extensively. Some well-established groups in larger cities offer regular schedules of facilitator training (for example, Chicago). Links to Healing Racism in Chicago group may be found here.

Hope this is helpful. A hint about where you are in the group spectrum, would allow more detailed response.

Also: An automated e-mail distribution list, race-unity@bcca.org, is now functional, to allow groups such as yours to communicate with each other easily. If you or someone in your group would like to be included in this list, please send a request to subscribe to race-unity-request@bcca.org, providing your name and city.
