Race Unity
and the Institutes for the Healing of Racism -
Role of Facilitators
Role of the Facilitators:
- Facilitators must be able to present both the purpose and
format of the healing circle in a clear, concise and attractive
manner.
- Facilitators must be careful to set an example of the kind
of behavior that they are striving to encourage in the participants.
- Facilitators should find themselves being excited about the
process of healing racism, and plan actions leading their own
transformation.
- Facilitators should act as instructors by helping participants
look for key ideas and find implications for action.
- Facilitators should carefully guide the group so that it
functions within its intended purpose.
- Facilitators must help individuals in the group reflect spiritual
attributes, such as personal dignity, courtesy and reliability
during sessions.
- Facilitators should foster honest communication that is both
tactful and constructive, and should themselves be good listeners.
- Facilitators must accept in a non-judgmental manner the values
and feelings of the group participants, and be able to feed back
to the group in a positive, loving way what they perceive, hear
and see without adding their own attitudes, feelings and prejudices.
